Description

Durga was made for a problem nobody else could solve. The gods gave up everything they had, and out of it came a woman on a lion with a weapon in every hand.

What the image is careful to show is her face. She is not furious. She is completely calm. The lion is mid stride, the weapons are raised, and her expression has not changed at all, because power that has to announce itself is not the kind she has.

For nine nights every year the whole country turns towards her. The rest of the year she stays in the mandir, which is arguably when she matters more.

Cast in solid brass and finished by hand by expert artisans. Kept in a home mandir, brought out for Navratri, or given to a woman in the family who should be told, once, where she is said to come from.
