Description
Radha and Krishna were never married. They spent most of their story apart. And they remain, three thousand years later, the image India reaches for when it wants to describe love.
The tradition is deliberate about this. Radha is not the wife. She is the devotee, and her longing is the point. What she feels for Krishna is what the soul is said to feel for the divine, which is why her name comes first every time the two are spoken together.
This murti holds the moment everyone pictures. Krishna with the flute, Radha beside him, the two of them entirely unbothered by anyone watching.
