Description
Shiva lives on a cremation ground, wears ash, and answers to nobody. Parvati chose him anyway, and waited years for him to notice. Their sons are an elephant-headed boy who writes down epics and a warrior born to lead an army at six days old.
It is, by any measure, an unusual family. And it is the one Hindu homes keep closest, because it is the only image in the tradition that shows the divine simply being together.
The Shiva Parivar murti holds all of them in one piece. Shiva and Parvati at the centre, Ganesh and Kartikeya beside them, the household complete.
Cast in solid brass and finished by hand by expert artisans, it is made for a home mandir, a shelf near the door, or a new house that has not yet been blessed. Brass darkens gently with time and use, which is the point. A murti is supposed to look like it has been lived with.
